Quality Teas

Our Quality Teas
Tea is produced from a shrub called Camellia sinensis. There are four basic types of true tea: black tea, ooling tea, green tea and white tea. Herbal tea has an infusion of fruit or herbs that contains no Camellia sinensis. More people drink tea than any other prepared beverage in the world. We’ve Searched the World Over to Find the Best Teas

In Darjeeling

Several of our teas are only grown one place in the world: the area in northeastern India known as Darjeeling.
Here, the Himalayans reach to the heavens, the soil is rich and the region is unmatched for producing the Champagne of Teas. When properly brewed, Darjeeling Tea yields a light-colored liquor with a floral fragrance, a delicate spice and a refreshing finish. Exotic and aromatic, we cultivate this rare tea for connoisseurs.

In Assam
Several of our teas are grown in Assam, India, south of the eastern Himalayas. Here, lush conditions yield distinct flavors: bold, brisk and bright. Tea is grown in the lowlands, unlike tea grown in the highlands of Darjeeling and Nilgiris.

Assam is known for distinct black teas but the region also produces green and white teas with their own unique characteristics.

Socially and Environmentally Responsible Teas
Our teas are grown by Chamong, a Fair Trade-registered company. Founded in 1916, Chamong is one of India’s oldest tea growers. Six generations in this family-owned company have produced some of the world’s finest teas. The welfare of workers and families is Chamong’s and our highest priority. Chamong provides housing, schools, medical facilities and places of worship. Children go to school and do not work.

Stewardship of the earth is equally important. Chamong is fully committed to organic cultivation and is certified USDA-organic. It is the largest producer of organic tea in Darjeeling and Assam.

Earth-friendly projects have been instituted on Chamong’s Darjeeling estates to tap natural water resources producing hydroelectric power — preventing deforestation and maintaining ecological balance. Chamong is more than a tea producing company; it is community. We are proud to partner with Chamong.
